See if there is a club nearby .Hands on is best. The step by steps on here are pretty good.but limited nowdays but there is a thread on what you need rather than buying a kit..The u-tube videos by Davy Mcphail are brilliant.

I always used to say steer away from kits but have changed my stance on them slightly and would say it depends on the type of fishing you are going to be doing.
The FDG ( fly dressers guild) do a kit and maybe worth looking in to.
The materials in most kits are pretty poor quality but you may find like I did that it helps you to find out if it is something you want to stick to for not much money.

Try to find an experienced tyer who lives nearby. An hour of hands-on tuition with them should be worth hundreds of hours gazing at youtube vids.

I've just checked the The FDG website & there are 3 branch's in Scotland, Edinburgh, Dreghorn - Ayreshire & Corndorrat - Cumberhauld.
If none of those is near to you, then contact the national secretary & he may be able to put you in contact with someone near you that can help.

Have a look on youtube and search fly tying, there's a bloke called David Cammis (not caddis which would be cool) on youtube and he's excellent to watch if you want to pick up some tips.

There is a flytying class at lumphinnans primary school every winter, the guy that runs it would be able to advise you on materials and teach you to tye your own flies.
