Default Identifying Hen or Cock hackles

Hi
I have been given a whole load of fly tying feathers. Unfortunately none of the bags have identifying labels on them and whilst I can roughly tell the colour description I cant tell the difference between what is a cosk hackle/feather or a hen feather. So dont know which would be suitable for wet/dry fly.
Is there any way of identifying them?
thanks

Not sure if there is a definitive, sure way of telling but as I understand it hen hackles are softer, and more supple, whereas cock hackles are stiffer..... maybe this could help you separate them roughly?

Cock hackles are generally pointed in shape and the fibres tend to be less dense (not so webby). Generally tend to have more shine on

Hen hackles are the opposite round tips in shape, webby by nature and less shine.

These are general rules genetic hens can alter the rules slightly but from what you are saying I doubt they are genetics. If in doubt why not post a picture.

Default Many thanks for you help.

Thanks for your help. am I assuming that if I look at an individual feather that if its round then its likely to be hen and sharp then its cock or are you talking about the actual capes shape rather than the feathers?

Thanks again.
