Post A Few Grayling Nymphs

Here is a few grayling nymphs i tied up today using hends body quills! I've never tied using this material before, but i think i will be using it alot more from now on as it makes great bodies!
Here 4 flies tied on size 14 jig hooks.

And here is a 3 tied on curved hooks.

The ones on top pic are sure to work; my favorite are the green and orange arsed ones.

If I might be allowed to make a recommendation I would be using bigger tungstens; yours seem to be small (i.e. light) and the Grayling preffer their winter grub deep 'n down

Cheers!

J.

Bigbad..

Those look great, both jigs and grubs. The proportions look to be spot on! I fish a lot of that sort of style and they work a treat!

I agree with Jindra though. Try some bigger beads on the 14's jigs. Then you'll have a range of weights for different depths. Its also worth tying some on bigger jigs with even bigger beads also, grayling will take much bigger! try some 12's and 10's even 8's do the job on thier day.

Good luck

Taff

Nice flies. I have recently discovered Hends BQs, they are good bodymakers, easy to use and versatile. I prefer to make my tags shorter than yours, not suggesting any right or wrong, simply an observation.

Looking at your straight hook and curved hook I much prefer the curved. All mine so far have been on straight and copied from 'Fly fishing and Fly Tying' a very interesting book I got from Phil at The Fly tying Boutique. Not only does the book show a list of all Hends products it also shows dozens of tyings using their products. It comes with a dvd showing how to fish and tie the various bugs. Have you got a copy?

I'm going to tie some on curved. Thanks for the pics and idea.

Chris
