Default Krystal Hackle!

Had a visit to GAC this morning and purchased a couple of packets of the above which I quite liked the look of. This afternoon I placed a hook in the vice and wound some of it on , what a bloody mess it looked. Anyone on here have experience of this material if so could they explain/demonstrate an example of how best to utilize it.

I got the medium which abppears to be quite long never used the stuff before I just tried wrapping it and sweeping it back as i went along and it looked a real mess. Need to persevere with it and see what I can come up with . Was thinking of using it as a collar hackle with just a couple of turns and then putting a conventional hackle in front of it. I will experiment and post a pic on here.

I think Crystal hackle is one of the best synthetics around. There 2 types - Medium & Large, the medium is the most versatile and you can use it on various types of flies - whereas the large is more for bigger lures/pike flies.

I find the medium really easy to tie with, just keep sweeping fibres back. The large crystal hackle you do have to work it a bit more when sweeping the fibres back and isn't as easy to work with as the medium. I use the medium on lots of mini lures and rabbit bobies. good for dabblers too the medium.
