Dead shrew

The cat dumped a dead shrew outside the back door today. I was about to give it the standard burial in the bin until I looked at it. Waterhen Bloa went through my mind. Could the shrew replace mole fur? It feels the same.

Is this a shrewed idea or am I just plain simple barking? If it is an idea how do I preserve it? My plan is to skin it and leave it in the shed for a month or two then go see what's left. Anyone got a better plan?
