Default Pheasant experiment

I found a pheasant skin lurking in the back of one of my material drawers and decided to have a little play with a few of the neck feathers. These are the results.

Default Neck Feathers

Ive been tying my black and peacocks with the Green and white neck feather from the cock bird for about .25 years.
When i first started makeing my own flies my father used to give me the feathers of the brace of pheasants he was given at christmas.
With a red tag the black and peacock caught me grayling.
If i see a cock bird that has been knocked down by a car i get the green and white feathers if the bird has the ring .

There's a very deadly fly called the "Bracken Clock" that uses the church window feather as a hackle. It' was used as a cock-chafer beetle imitation & has a (I think) green peacock body with a red floss rib.

Default Xmas Time

This is the time of year when you can bag a bargain.
The butchers where i live usually have a brace of pheasants for about £5.
You get some great feathers for tying traditional flies.
And you get a meal for xmas.
If you know somebody that shoots its even cheaper if you give him a fish or a drink.
