Default yellowy-olive hackle

get a good coloured hackle for ymd or olives, boil some onion skins in water until you get shade u want add a drop of vinagar then your hackles or cape, no need for exspensive dyes.

Aye I guessed that much about the vinegar and also guessed it was a method from days gone by . The point/question I was making is how does it compare to the modern dyes and methods and how well does it stand up to being washed out when the fly is fished ?? As even some materials you gets these days do wash out very fast

Onion skins are often used by the trade to dye silver mallard flank a summer duck substitute colour.
