Spider is on a distinguished road
Default Steve Thorntons CDC/flexibody caddis

Hi all

As i'll be making a belated start to my flytying season I feel some self punishment is in order.

As such I'm thinking about trying Steve Thorntons Caddis ( the one from a few years ago ) pupa.

Can anyone point me in the right direction for instruction - i dont want to buy his book ( there is only so much self flaggelation i can take !!).

And are those eyes completely necessary?

Spider,

If you visit Steve Thornton's Virtual Nymph website and register on the site (it's free!!!), you can then download tying instructions.

Kind regards

Spider,

Just take the Thornton pattern and simplify it to suit your needs!

Kind regards

Might be wrong but dont think an sbs is on his site, but a few steps out of it.

I may have a few pages on it at home from a mag a few years ago.

Is this pattern a floater ?

I think it is? Hangs in the meniscus ?

It sinks but stays high in the water column. This was one of my attempts:

Have fun.

Hey Spider, I took a quick look on ST's site and I don't think this is on there. To be honest, it's not the easiest SBS to type out but it isn't such a difficult tie. (ST does a shorter underwing which you can't see in the above photo and is probably redundant.) If you like this sort of semi-realistic pattern I don't think you'd be disappointed buying the two books (even if only for the two techniques).
