Default best hooks for klinkhamer?

Looking to tie up some klinkhamers over next day or so......patterns such as Diptera say use wet fly hook. As floating is important, would lighter/dry fly hooks be better? Any advice please?

Thanks, Peter

In John Roberts book - "The World's Best Trout Flies" Hans van Klinken who invented the Klinkhamer Special advocates using Partridge GRS12ST or K12ST hooks, so I'd tend to go with these . . . . . .
Hope this helps

All the best

Kev

These are perfect for the job:

Flytying Boutique - for unusual and interesting materials

Much better than the Partridge attempts.

Thanks for the replies and advice, I'll be getting some proper klinkhamer hooks. Meanwhile I still think that - shape apart - a standard wet fly hook may be a bit heavy and a dry hook would be better?

Thanks, Peter

Mebu, an important thing about the klinkhamar is that the weight of the hook correctly "cocks" the fly almost like a float, you want to get the body under the water.

Regards floating, look at it this way if you were going to make a penny float on water, what way would you try first. Flat side, the large surface area created by the para hackle will hold more weight than a normal hackle balancing on its tips.

I bought some of the Partridge klinkhamer hooks recently. They seem to be on a different scale to other hooks - I got sizes 14 and 16 which are bigger than my Kamasan 10 and 12 lure hooks. I am told that Hans v K designed the klink to be very big but why not call the hook the appropriate size?

As oliver edwards says the klinkhammer is supposed to be a big fly. Small ones tied on curved grub hooks are Para duns with a curved body.

Yes they tend to be big but thats the general idea.

John.
