On Saturday at the BFFI, I made a beeline to see Dave in action, one of the best IMO, and a joy to watch.
Now I am the first to admit, I am not a proficient tyer, I get away with my flies, and they catch fish, but exhibition pieces, they are not!!!
I also like a tail on most of my dry flies, it just aids buoyancy to me, and often find when tying in two microfibbets, that keeping them nicely separated is a fiddly old job.
Dave kindly showed me the old trick of a bit of thread placed around the bend of the hook and brought up and over and between the tails, flaring them perfectly, nothing new to you professionals I'm sure, but to me a revelation.
I have just tied a few, and it works every time, and as Dave mentioned, if using a bright green or coloured thread, and left to show, it can represent an egg sack, two birds with one stone springs to mind.

Cheers Dave, I feel a bit more competent now.
