Default Mayfly bodies

I am a bit obsessed with wally winging at the moment and I am experimenting with Mayflies in a big way. Is there an SBS for a dubbing material detached mayfly body?
Or does anyone know what glue to use to make one.

Here is one I made earlier with a bought mayfly body. I would much rather make my own.

Thanking you all in advance.

Hiya PollyP,

Give this a look. Norm does a nice extended body mayfly.

And surely Davie McPhail has given us one as well.

If you want to make your own like the bought one, just get some clear silicone from a hardware store, apply a little to a needle in a vice, add tail fibres and then use some long fine fibre dubbing like Superfine and, with fibres extended, wind (rotary vice) the dubbing on the needle, forming a taper as you go. Slide off needle, add a bit of curvature and then leave to dry.

Several years ago, these were made in France by Bidoz & marketed by Partridge, but demand didn't meet expectation so they dissapeared. They are now available again through Wharfedale Angling classics & are now being made by Hemingway's whos agent is Right Angle Fishing Limited

Well, that is ahemingway body and jolly nice it is too! I also got it from steve at Wharfedale. I'll see what I can do with a glued dubbed body tonight and let you know how it goes.

I use copydex for my detached bodies, you can get it in most stationary stores. It's a type of latex rubber (I think), you paint a thin film about 1 inch by 2 inches on a flat surface and leave it to dry.
Once dry you place your tail material on one end and then gently roll the copydex so that it forms the nice sausage shape, it takes a bit of practice to get the proportions right but it's very cheap so that doesn't matter.
I'd post some pics but I'm doing this on the work computer (skiving!).
If you want to add colour to the body then I also add some tying silk of the desired colour in with the tail material.

It only takes a few minutes to make as many bodies as you'll need for the season once you get the proportion right although most people I've showed this method spend more time painting the copydex on their hands and then peeling it off once dried to scare the sh1te out of their kids!

Hope this helps

Bw

Tying like this with Deer Hair makes great floating extended bodies for Mays and Daddies..................

ACW they are beautiful bodies! You are giving me ideas.

I have tried the dubbed bodies tonight and am having a wee bit of success.
However, I am having a serious amount of fun with latex!

I'll keep you posted. In the meantime I have run out of suitable mallard and teal, so the wall winging has to end for now..

Anyhoo, thank you so so much everyone of you.
