Default spring steel black buzzer wire?

HI All,

I tried an old buzzer pattern i found at a fishery it was size 10 with black spring steel wire loosely wraped turns down to the turn of the hook and a red thread head. Very simple fly but caught very well.

Now does anyone know of the wire that would make this kind of fly?

The theory someone explained to me is that rather than ribbing the space on the wire hook between the turn creates the illusion of "transulcant" ribbing.

The next best description of the black buzzer is kinda a fly with a pen spring slipped on over the hook. yeah yeah i hear the jokes comin in now. but you couldnt take off the spring steel wire or whatever it was without wire cutters its bloody tough stuff.

Anyone know what it might be?

Icejohn,

Black wire from either Hends or UTC will work fine for this style of buzzer - easy to work with.

The wires are available in loads of different colours - I tie a buzzer using brown wire on a gold hook, and olive wire on a silver hook - take a few minutes to tie and works really well!

Kind regards

Default spring wire for buzzers

hi spider plus,

Is the wire you mentioned soft wire or hard wire. The wire used on the above patter doesnt require any tying tread at all as the tension it creates holds it on the hook very tightly. Like i said wire cutters would be needed to remove it.

I have wire ribbing utc etc and its very fine nothing like the above.

Default pic will try get one done

pic will try get one done.

It would seem that the pattern is not well known as i googled images and found nothing like it.

The actual buzzer body is this sping steel wire with 1.5mm space in between turns. The hook itself is left bare no thread required at all. The tension of the wire against the hook holds it together.

I reccon you could catch a 100 trout on the fly and it wouldnt pull appart tough pattern indeed.
