Hi there,

What kind of water are you fishing?

Ah, well, you'd best get help from somebody other than me then! But I would hazard a guess that pheasant tail nymphs and hare's ear nymphs will be high on the list. I'll be watching the thread to get some river ideas myself!

Very open ended question. At this time of year none if trout are your target lol.
Weighted nymphs (PTs, hares ears etc...) will catch a fair few grayling at the moment, atleast they are on the rivers I fish. Hatches are sporadic and short on our rivers at this time of year so, although I always have some dries with me, they are getting used less and less until next year.

Just take a selection of generic nymphs in a range of sizes and weights and you will be fine. I am definitely a believer that depth and presentation are more important than an exact replica of the fly. Especially when nymph fishing as their will be dozens of different nymph species present for the majority of the year so the trout and grayling will be used to seeing some variety. Weight is very important though, I take a range from unweighted to lead bombs and change depending on depth, flow and feeding habits of the fish. I would normally try a differnt weight before colour etc...

Will change throughout the year then. With dries i have a box full of olives in various sizes and stages (emergers, duns and spents) I personally dont feel colour is too important so all mine are tan or olive depending on which dubbing came to hand first. I also have a box for sedges and one for klinks and terrestrials such as foam beetles.

My nymphs are simple and the same as I described in my previous post, a range of sizes and weights of a small selection of different flies.
