I tie 6 of each to start with, My reasoning, 3 for me to use, 1 to lose, One to give away to the boat partner if he needs it (yes, even during a serious competition!) and one to keep as an original for copying purposes or development purposes if I want to slightly change things.

If the fly is a success I'll usually tie 2 dozen and put 12 in a bag in my reserve and 12 in the fly box(es)

Cheers

I tie 6 up usually. The main reason for this is that I am a very slow beginner, and I don't want to spend all my time at the vice !
Seriously, by the time I have snapped the thread, or stripped the hook and started again, or just tied them up and think how bad they are, I have probably done twice that, just to end up with 6 !!
Never mind, I WILL improve. (Looks a lot easier in the SBS videos)
Cheers,
Gary.

Usually a minimum of 3, more often 5 or 6 with the occasional 10+ depending on its reports.

Excellent

One eminent tyer I know ties four and examines all four and destroys the one he least likes and keeps the remaining three.

Recently I have started tying the usual three, one to give away, one to lose and one to fish with.

I generally tie between 6 and 12 of the patterns I use in several sizes , So I may end up tying 30+ of one pattern if its one I know I will use often.
