Default Yellow foam for Balloon Caddis

Can anyone point me in the right direction to buy yellow polycelon foam for the Balloon Caddis? Seems to be a lot of different foam out there and i used some very compact stuff and the end of last season but the effect wasnt "right" . Thanks

I assume its the Ballon Caddis as tied by Oille Edwards your talking about. I was looking for polycelon but couldnt find any, I eventually found some plastazote which i got from Fly Tying Foam. Looking at the web site they dont appear to have any yellow in stock. Pm me your address and i will send you some yellow.

Polycelon is a trade name for Plastazote, but with a finer grain structure. They are both nitrogen filled synthetic foams, the same stuff as sold by Hends et al is identical to the stuff you can buy from almost any craft suppliers for a lot less money.

I get mine from Hobbycraft at 59p per sheet as opposed to £1.50+ from the flytying shops

Any yellow foam will do - you just need to avoid that awful closed cell stuff which does the pattern no favours at all.

And although the original is tied with yellow foam, who says that has to be the case? White works just fine.....

I use small Veniards booby eyes cut into quarters (in half lengthways and then along the long axis to give a semi-circle crossection) and tied in curved side down projecting over the eye and then folded back so the curve is on top. Probably my best dry this year.

Have now done the same Sab. Thats a good little site, and very very well priced, especially for sterling.

Matt, what does the closed cell stuff look like by comparison to this polycelon?

Go to the local pound shop, 10 sheets of foam, A4 size, 10 different colours, including yellow, all for the cost of one of the british pounds only.

All the best.
