Default Up-eyed nymph hooks

Are these really necessary when tying nymphs that have been weighted/ leaded . Iv read that nymphs tied on down-eyed hooks with lead underbody swim in incorrect attitude. Cant see that it would make a huge difference. Caught lots of fish on nymphs tied on down-eyed hooks this season. Any opinions/suggestions??

Bill,

If you are catching with down eyed hooks, why change? Up eyed hooks will not really make a lot of difference.

Kind regards

I'm not convinced. I have tried all sorts of beads, up, down, jig hooks, lead underbodies, and as far as I am concerned, have found no great advantage or disadvantage. It's all a ploy to hook the angler, rather than the fish. Its anothor of those things that works for you, only if you believe it does, and if it's in the mind, it's real.

Billd, if you use a knot that ties ONTO the eye then there's every possibility that it will not swim as it's intended. However if you tie a knot that goes around the shank & neck of the hook just before the eye, such as a turle type knot then you'll have no worries, as the leader can only ever go directly inline with the shank.
