Default Shield bugs

Anyone got a good shield bug pattern, the fish at Bewl are hard on these things, The bugs are green with orangy brown legs and about a size 12
I've done a few experimentals and will try them out in the week but is there an already established pattern?

Cheers

Best I've seen is Leon Guthrie's

Can be seen on me blog with tying instructions!

But it took him just over a month he told me.

Here is the link to that page.

Loopy's Fishing, Flies and the odd Gag: Leon Guthrie's Shield Bug

Very cool

Not got a recipe but have an idea. I was looking at the post by big guy a few weeks ago. My Mrs said what is that . Well she is very handy in the drawing department, I asked can you draw that and hey presto. The one she produced was about 3-4" in size, ok, now do life/real size. Sure enough easy.

Earlier that day we had been mooching in the craft part of our local 'The Range'. General hardware store with a good craft dept if your not fam. Looking for something completely different (beads) we came across some thin foam. About 1/16" thick and lots of diff colours. The foam is dense and there is a likely looking green to. When considering the body we both knew straight away we had already seen it earlier. Simply use the lifesize drawing as a template for the body and rubber legs. The key to this thing being the thickness of the foam-looks dead on.

Not bait but I wouldn't want to lose one that took a month to tie.

You can also get double-sided Loco foam in beetle green.
