Default Identifying acquired flies

As a relative newbie to fly fishing, I purchased some assorted trout flies online but I wondered if anyone knew of an online resource that would help me identify what I have bought? I often have people wander up to me and ask what I am using and it would be nice to give a better answer than "small black size16" for example!

ta, Brian.

Hi Brian,
I would start with any of the online companies that sell flies. (try Caledonia Fly Company or Fulling Mill or Essential Fly )

Brian,

I would get the Fulling Mill catalogue (cost a couple of quid but well worth it)- contains pictures of lots and lots of flies which would help you identify flies in the future.....

The Fulling Mill catalouge has, as mentioned above, hundreds of em in good colour. I simply rang them and asked for one. NO charge. It took about 10 days to show up but worth the wait. Just had a look 48 pages of flies, 50-60 per page .

Cheers for the info - will give those a go.
It's a very complex subject that's for sure!
