Default Flies for Lomond Silver....

October can be the best month of the season on the big loch.....hopefully I'll be through there shortly.I'm not convinced that the flies are so important however, two patterns I have complete faith in are....

KATE MCLAREN MUDDLER

No need for a recipe on this, all I've done is replace the black body hackle with a nice rich gingery furnace saddle hackle.

SINVICTA

Hook B-175 size 10.
Body Flat silver mylar.
Body Hackle Ginger henny cock ribbed with fine silver wire.
Shoulder Hackles In left to right order...silver doctor grizzle hen, furnace hen, natural GP rump feather.

This one borrows a hell of a lot from one of Scratches silver invicta variants. Its more or less the same....just tied in a slightly different style.

Very good to see some of your Jim me owd. Is there a bit of 'west of edinburgh' in the kate body hackle/invicta tail?

You know what they say Eck lad......"you can take the boy out of the west of Edinburgh".....

Actually no mate.....must just look that way in the pic. There are some lovely rich reddish brown tones at the bottom end of the GP rumps feathers....again not apparent in the pics.

Ah ha, got ye now. Thought it was dyed crest.

The reason I was asking about the kate is that I'd done a similar one, that's had a few, with a W.O.E body hackle and wee fiery head..

Used to have a box of The Big L flies, but I think the ex took them with her some years ago. There were things like Turkey and gold turkey and silver, jenny ross some quite heavely dressed invictas including a claret version. Must have a rake and see if I can find any. jim
