Default Lack of intrest or no money about?

My fly tying classes at Esher college have been cancelled as only 3 people signed up. Now this may be a reflection of my teaching style but as it has run succesfully every other year is it a reflection of the economic climate? Anyone else seeing a drop in numbers at classes? (paid for or free)
I've emailed all of last years students and have got positive replies from the 3 who did sign up but nothiong from the others.
I am now feeling unloved

Cheers

Sorry to hear that Chris, but it's a sign of the times I'm afraid. A lot of people simply don't have much spare cash these days. Shops and small businesses closing all over the place-big companys moving country. It's dire to say the least. Wish you were nearer I'd have loved to signed up.

Chris

Assume this was evening classes?
Had i have known/realised i might well have been interested
Probable lack of interest as already pointed out is almost certainly down to peoples cash flow.

Chris i have nothing for admiration for your work, the time you spend with people and your help but i fear its places like this forum and the availability of tutorials on the likes of You Tube that make everything more instant.
The class room environment is also off putting, having been only to one fly tying class in my life it was full of cardigan sporting well...weirdos.
Money is tight sure enough but i think there is more to it than the economic climate or your teaching style.
Look at the amount information available to all through the Internet, dont take it personally.

Im sure its not your teaching style as you are supurb tyer whom many people would benefit from. I agree with buzz that youtube has a big part to play with people watching and learning in the comfort of their ow homes.

Hope it picks up for you.

John

Thanks for the kind words, since posting I've had a couple of others ring me with the old "I was going to sign up on the night" routine.
It's interesting that Chub didn't know about them, where have you been hiding mate?
I assume you're not a member of the S and TA or Fly dressers guilds? There are posters up in Peter Cockwills shop and Weybridge guns and tackle, sadly the magazines did not respond to my resuest for publicity.

Anyway, Chub, if you are interested, there is a class on Friday nights at Ripley Village hall run by John Smith (yes that is his real name) aimed at beginners and improvers, cost is £3 per session and it goes on for the next 7 weeks

As for filling the class up in Wales, I could also do that in the Midlands and oop North, We obviously the wrong work life balance in surrey!

Cheers

Same problem here at Crawley Fly Fishers, even those that do tie already. Very few bring their kit on a Tuesday evening it seems most members prefer to tie at home, maybe its some sort of fear of being back in a class room enviroment. If they have the basic materials and the classes are free its hard to understand as its a social activity and there is a bar!

Sorry to here that Chris. We (the Bristol F.D/G.) have recently had an enquiry from someone in South Wales who wants to get back into tying. He's obvisously able & willing to venture over the bridge. I haven't, as yet asked him if he'd like to consider asking any others over there if they're willing to share transport/bridge costs etc. Maybe if there are enough readers of this post who are interested we could get something going ?
