Default Klink Wingposts

After 2 seasons of getting to grips with French Nymphing its time to go back to NZ style which did okay for many seasons.

I am looking for advice on which floating yarn product that is reasonably fine ( some of the polyp stuff i have is coarser than my grandmothers knickers) , comes in yellow, pink , orange and red and unlike TMC Aero wing does not cause a financial meltdown.

Just purcased some FunkyFibre and if you wish to go finer still, the SilkyFibre is supposed to be good: SilkyFibre :: Funky Fly Tying .

Otter

I have been using Funky fibre. Not sure that it comes in that range of colours but it is quality material for wing posts.

regards

Vince

As a point of interest...would it not be possible to use CDC ? (comes in lots of colours !)

I ask the question because I have never seen a clink with a CDC post but I don't know why !

Is there a reason ?

Nigel

Default Wing post

I use a bit of old shoelace, or if I want to be fancy then polyprop, I don't think the fibres are that coarse.

I would have thought CDC would be an expensive way to go and not really add any benefit, it won't help the fly float any better 'cos it's sticking up in the air.

See page 62 of Fly Tying Bible - Klinkhammer Special, recipe does just that; never tried it myself though, would be interested if someone has.

Polypropylene Floating Yarn - WAPSI

I agree, any floating wing post is a waste as the fly is totally supported on the hackle. CDC is too expensive to use in lots of flies, I use Antron yarn (yes i know it floats but it is cheap!) from Veniards, preferably the shiny stuff which comes in many different bright colours that I chop and change depending on light conditions.

Cheers
