What sort of financial outlay would i be looking at to kit myself out with some decent equipment? I really want to get into fly tying soon as i feel this is a natural progression in my Flyfishing hobby...Although i'm as clumsy as an ox!!

Welcome to the asylum, abandon hope etc. Take a brief detour to The FDG & see if there's a branch near you, if there is JOIN IT !
Before you get on the "kits" mode speak to people who are local to you & see what they use. You can start up for around £50 ish or there really is no upper limit.

You should also seriously consider buying 'Fly Tying for Beginners' by Peter Gathercole. I have just bought this from amazon and its an excellent little book with lots of new as well as older easy to tie fly patterns. I used to tie flies and was looking for something more fairly up to date to get me introduced to some of the newer techniques/materials/patterns etc. this book is a corker and easy to understand with excellent photos and tieing instructions, for a tenner you won't regret it.

Hey, I'm as clumsy as an ox too . Fact Jack. Come and join us-it's great fun and people on here will help. There are people on here who are absolutely top draw tyers. Well posh in the fly tying world...but hey, just ask. Expect support, they were new once.

nothing better to overcome hamfistedness.. the vice!

tool wise to start with you'll need a vice, bobbin holder (ceramic),
whip finisher, hair stacker and a descent pair of scissors..
price? whatever your willing to pay.. i would say get a regent vice.
flys? ..tye whatever you fish with to start, picking the easier patterns first..
buzzers, PTN's, dubbed nymphs.. depending if you want trout flys,
what flys do want?

If you want to really "distracted" by all of this, why not go to the British Fly Fair International You see & learn more from that in 1 day than you will by any other means. Don't take your plastic though as you can come out with armfull's of stuff !

I'll second Arkles remark!, BFFI has everything you need and an awful lot of stuff you didn't know you needed too. When you add that to all the free help and advice thats available then its worth the price of entry.
Whether you are an experienced tier or a complete beginner there is something for everyone.
I am on the "Any problems?" benches again with several other experienced tiers so if you have any questions or issues with any aspect of tying then some and say hello, I'm not saying we'll solve all your problems but between us we should be able to help. Even if you don't have problems come and say hello. I like meet forum members and put faces to the avatars.

Dont be shy now.

Regards
