Default Raiding The Bargain Bin

My local tackle shop often has a bargain bin full of odds and ends of carp fishing tackle that wasn't marketed effectively enough

Well worth a dig around in there, they have some interestingly shaped heavy gauge curved hooks, often coated, which I think make quite a good basis for a leaded shrimp or heavy buzzer. Unfortunately, the 50p packets were all a bit too big (though thinking about it, some of them might make interesting lures) but these are an interesting hook if not particularly cheap:

Steve at £2 a packet thats bloody good i use nothing other than mugga hooks for my barbel fishing great for using with the knotless knot, they are an excellent hook, sharp and well made and extremely strong i have never had one bend out of shape on me yet and often thought of using them for grubs etc with them being a heavy gauge ,not needing much lead wrap to get them down deep and retain a very slim body shape , if you go again and they have any more in "the bin" seriously now could you get me ten packets if there is ten preferably differing sizes but no problem if they are all 10 or 12s etc or any sizes at 50p a packet ,money ready and waiting Steve ??

there very strong hooks and would never open no matter how big the fish is but the downfall is there wide in metal meaning they need a fair strike to set especialy on smaller fish.. im not saying use extra fine hooks but the finer the hook is the more hook ups you will get down to more hook penetrating alot easier..
just my opinion

I don't really care about the strength, I'm not using them for salmon

I just like the shape and the weight of them for applications where they need to sink quickly.

they might sink a little quicker but the hook up is more important. is it not?
better hook penetration.. more hook ups, fact! you'll see the proof with your hook up rate mate why risk losing a fish? use a finer wire hook with adhesive lead.. you could get some for the price of that pack of hooks and that model of hook is literally the same as cheq nymph hooks.. like bruce said there used for other big species and thats the reason why mate.
im sure you can see the logic..
