Default Emerger Hooks

Hello all i am going to tie up some emergers over the winter Deer Hair & Snowshoe ones too.I worry when using B100s incase i hit a large trout & loose it with the hook straightening.Does anyone use these hooks SCH 31160 Super Grub - Lathkill Fly Fishing .I think they are slightly heavier wire than B100s.Are they still light enough for Deer Hair & Snowshoe Emergers. Cheers

Sorry, I don't know that one but the Kamasan B420 is very good if you don't mind it having an up-eye.

Don't know that hook either, but might be worth a trial.

One of my (minor) criticisms of the B100 is that the wire is a little light - I like to unhook my fish in the water and find that often the hook will twist slightly when forceps are used to do this. Otherwise, the B100 is a nice hook, I like the shape

Agreed they are a heavier hook - depends on the volume of dressing - you don't want them to sit ON the surface, more IN the surface.

Add a little gink to the thorax and wing of a D H or snowshoe Emerger and you should be fine.

Kind regards

Rab

I have never had a B1OO straighten on me, even in big fast water.
Having said that if its DHE your tying i rate the TMC 2457 for it,its 2x heavy and makes the fly sit with its ar$e in the water as opposed to float like a comparadun. Given these are big flies anyway there is always enough deer hair to float a submarine.

North Country Angler is the man to ask about hooks for Snowshoe, he ties a very mean emerger with them.

As an aside i have been trying to find a heavy barbless hook that does the job as well as the TMC 2457 and have been tying DHE on Hanak H 300 bl Czech Nymph hooks (they are about the right shape), so far so good but a bit early to say.

Not barbless, but the Dai-riki 135 is the heaviest gauge wire I've used in this particular shape. Dunno who supplies 'em in UK, I bought mine in USA

I have ordered some Super Grub hooks to try. What might be best is use the Super Grub hooks for the DHE Flies & B100s for the Snowshoe ones. After seeing North Country Anglers LDO post i knew i would need to tie some for next year..Anyway everyone enjoy the rest of the trout season i am back offshore to work.At least i have the memories of catching loads of trout 2 days ago on my favourite fly CDC & Elk .Cheers Buzz for telling me a while ago to tie some CDC & Elk flies seem to be deadly round here probably everywhere.
