Hi Amber, the rib looks like red Magic Glass Nymph body! Never used it on Salmon files but its a nice effect.

I don't recognise the fly (nice tying) but sure someone will come up with a name.

I think that is a red & pearl flamethrower.
The Flamethrower style was designed by Duncan Egan.

this is similar

hope this helps

I think that is amore a variant of the Editor fly devised by Sandy Leventon. AFlamethrower has a short rear body mid-ish hackle wing, short front body then double hackle at the front.
The fly pictured is of a more traditional consstruction.

The editor was black bucktail wing, blue hackle, jungle cock cheeks, pearl body and a flourescent green nylon rib.

That looks like it could be a red nylon as I would have thought that the v-rib would have compressed more under tension and that looks to be standing quite proud still.
I think the original nylon was shock leader used by sea fishers, i think Lureflash used to retail the green stuff, maybe a trip to your local tackle shop and look in the nylon or sea fishing section might reveal some red stuff.

Quite disappointed amber that the link I gave you has ben removed for some reason, if it conflicts with this site then thats fine, but it would have been nice if I had been notified that it had been removed and a reason given or even a slight apology maybe....erm? But maybe its my fault for not been fully aware of what is or isn't sticky. Oops!

Hi,

Thanks to all for the feedback.

It was one of 5 or 6 flies that I got free from one of the large mail order shops, Fawcetts or Norris when I bought a line & reel from them a year or 2 ago. I am pretty sure it is not a flamethrowers although some of the other free flies were.

I have copied it and used red round body glass for the rib, (it's similar to flexifloss).

I was just interested to find out the name of the fly.

It may be worth copying as I fished it on Saturday for the for the first time and got a fish on it having earlier unsucessfully fished the pool with an Ally's & yellow flamethrower.

I suppose if I could remember the shop I could ask them.

Regards
Amber
