Default Pitsford Pirate 'Castaway' Fly Lines

Updated May 2012!!

Pitsford Pirate 'Castaway' Fly Line weights/densities available as follows:

Ivory Floating with 3ft Mustard Green Slow Intermediate Sink Tip in WF#6, #7 and #8

Ivory Floating in DT#3, #4 and #5

Ivory Floating in WF3, #4, #5, #6, #7 and #8

Hi-Viz Orange Floating in WF#6, #7 and #8

Mustard Green Slow Intermediate (Neutral Density) in WF#6, #7 & #8

Light Blue Fast Intermediate (1.0 to 1.5 ips) in WF#6, #7 and #8

Dark Green Sinking (4.0 ips) in WF#7 and #8

All lines in stock!

All DT & WF#3 & #4 lines are 27.3 yards/25 metres in length and the DT#5, WF#5, #6, #7 and #8 are longer than standard lines at 105ft (35 yards/32 metres).

On the WF lines, the approx. taper breakdown is as follows:

Front Taper including tip - 12ft
Belly - 21ft
Rear Taper - 15 ft
Running line - 57 ft

I have gone for a taper design that should suit beginners, improvers and experienced casters alike, developed with a combination of loading ease, distance and turnover/presentation in mind.

These are first quality British made lines, not mill-ends or factory seconds. Lines are well packaged, labelled and come with a reel-end tag to ensure easier spooling.

The Pirate won't plunder your wallet, any standard line including two British made braided loops with the braid sleeve* and UK postage by recorded delivery is only £18.00 The new Sink Tips are only £20.50 each including braided loops and postage.

Two standard lines are only £35.00, three lines are £51.00, four lines are £66.00 and five lines are £80.00. If ordering a Sink Tip along with other lines, please add £2.50 to these totals.

Am sorry, I wish I could sell the new Sink Tips at the same price as the rest of my range but they cost so much more to have manufactured.

There is additional postage to EU; therefore please contact me for details.

I could easily have gone down the route of having my lines in fancy packaging, however a plastic spool and shiny box doesn't cast through the rod rings or catch fish, it simply costs you the consumer much more money and for what? Any tackle company can stick a line in a box with a fancy design and whack a £35.00 price tag on it.

If you are looking for a line weight/density not listed above, then I don't do them am afraid, sorry. Please note that UK SWFF, Predator and Spey lines are currently in development and will be available in due course. I have no plans for tropical lines at this stage and will not be introducing a clear intermediate under any circumstances.

Any questions on line weight/density suitability in relation to your current kit and set up, please do not hesitate to ask and I will endeavor to help as best as possible. If you are at all unsure about the weight required to suit your kit, or if you are starting or improving, please do not hesitate to ask me for advice, even if it is only my best opinion. Simply let me know some details of your current or intended kit and the applications you intend to use it for.

Incidentally, due to modern day manufacturing processes and stringent quality control procedures, faulty lines are an extreme rarity. If however in the highly unlikely event you recieve a faulty line, it will be replaced without question as long as it is returned within 7 days. Simply tag the fault so I can identify and draw it to the attention of the manufacturer. You will also be compensated for the return postage cost and inconvenience. I have a zero tolerance on factory faults and customer satisfaction is of paramount importance to me, if you are not happy then I am not happy.

One final note, if you are under 18 years of age, by all means contact me for advice, however should you wish to purchase line/s, please have a parent or guardian contact me directly.

Please PM me, otherwise e-mail to: pitsfordpirate1@yahoo.com

Payment for orders can be made via cheque, postal order or direct bank transfer.

Pip pip!

The Pirate

P.S. Am always being asked if I can supply line treatment or floatant, so can now do tubs of red Mucilin for £2.00 with any fly line order, no extra for postage.

* A point to note, although using the plastic sleeve to slip over the braid where you have superglued is a popular method and quick solution when fitting a braided loop, I personally don't advocate or support this method, as the join is less flexible than the fly line itself; therefore through use will eventually wear and split the line just behind the sleeve. Although easily rectified by simply fitting a new braided loop, it is still not the most efficient method.

I would personally recommend either of the following four methods:

1. Dispense with the plastic sleeve, chop the braided loop down to around four inches, thread the line tip inside the braid as far as it will go, trim the frayed ends then whip in place using tying silk and a tiny tiny drop of superglue to coat the whipping.

2. Using nail varnish remover, strip off the first inch of coating from the tip of the line, revealing the braided core, form a loop with the bare core and whip it in place again using tying silk, again coating the whipping with a tiny amount of superglue.

3. Nail or needle knot six to twelve inches of 12lb to 20lb mono (depending on line weight) to the tip of the line and form a perfection loop in the mono to attach your leader.

4. Hard to better......http://www.graysofkilsyth.com/fishin...#39;s-loop.htm

N.B. After the above advice, am getting a lot of requests to fit and whip the loops or nail knot a butt section onto lines. Am afraid this is not a service I offer. Lines need to be spooled onto your reel before doing so. I appreciate these things might be a bit tricky to begin with but the only way to learn is by having a go yourself, although I will offer help & advice via PM or on the phone when asked. Tightlines!

Updated July 2011

I get a lot of questions on what knots I would recommend using or what I personally use.

To be honest, it's all down to personal taste and preference, however here are some popular techniques......

The Arbor knot for attaching backing to reel spool:

http://www.animatedknots.com/arbor/i...matedknots.com

The nail/tube knot for attaching fly line to backing:

http://www.animatedknots.com/nailkno...matedknots.com

The water knot for attaching dropper lengths to the main leader:

Some people use a three or four turn water knot, however this is pointless IMHO, the extra turns weaken the knot and make it too bulky, I personally use a two-turn water knot.

The Uni knot for attaching leader to fly line loop and for attaching flies to leader & droppers:

http://www.animatedknots.com/uniknot/index.php

A Perfection loop for 'loop to loop' connections:

http://www.animatedknots.com/perfect...matedknots.com

Hope this is of use.

Pip pip!

The Pirate.

Default quality lines

I have recently had 2 lines from PP and I can vouch for the quality; I was, to be honest, surprised. You will not get a better deal elsewhere

Smile Reasonably Priced Floating Line - sorted!

Thanks everyone for their response to my query, posted recently. I got a load of advice and I took it all on board.
At the end of the day I decided to buy a WORCESTER from 'Pitsford Pirate' and I am delighted.
Stewart is a great bloke - gave me loads of his time, on the phone, and sorted me out perfectly with the line, which is excellent - nice finish and LIMP!
I couldn't recommend Stewart more strongly than this - why go anywhere else?

Thanks again,
David
