Pflureger Summit River & Stream Fly Reel
Pflureger Summit River & Stream Fly Reel
Good Value from an Etailer

Default Pflureger Summit River & Stream Fly Reel

Well my first review sure got some attention and so on to my second. I bought this Pflugerer Summit Fly Reel from an Etailer on Ebid having already seen the same reel in shops and on Ebay at various prices from £5.99 to £11.99.
The reel is a basic fly reel made of a composite material (possibly graphite) with a standard click action.
Its the type of reel which would suit the angler who believes that a reel is simply a storage space for his line, for a beginner, youngster or even just as a back up. There are no written instructions or guarantee with the reel but as I said it is a basic fly reel.
The reel I bought came from a company called First Choice Products on Ebid.net and cost just £5.99 including postage. Not the best reel in the world but certainly excellent value for money at that price.
I have no connection or interest with the manufacturer or seller of this item.
All opinions are my personal opinions.

Default Ineresting bit of kit. New one to me so did a bit of 'Google Research' and found the following:

Final Closeouts for these products.

Managing Partner Note:

In 2007, there was a consolidation in the fishing industry. Pure Fishing & Shakespeare (the maker of Pflueger brands) merged. Later that year Coleman acquired Pure Fishing. Since that time, there have been a
number of product line changes, rationalizations and deletions, especially in the fly rod and reel segments. Some of
these changes included the removal of the Pflueger Supreme reels, Pflueger Summit reels, and most recently the
Pflueger Trion fly rod series. Now in 2010, the Pflueger Trion spare spools are now on closeout, so it would appear that
the Trion fly reels are next to go. That's too bad. They were good products at great prices.

Also in 2010, Pure Fishing is changing their distribution model and order requirements, which greatly impact the ability of
stores like ours to compete effectively. In essence, we would be required to purchase from a distributor (Middle man) and
pay higher rates unless our order volumes increase dramatically. Imagine that in this economy?!

So unfortunately, we've made a management decision to stop carrying the Pflueger line of rods and reels. It's just not a
good business model for us anymore. We will sell-out all that we have in stock . But unfortunately we cannot purchase
any new inventory. If you have questions or comments, please feel free to contact us.

Dear Fred ,

I've been Shakespeare's UK Game Fishing Consultant for just over 28 years .

The rationalisation really did have to be done - believe me - and in there we in the UK lost some great ( but unprofitable ) product . I assume exactly the same exercise had to be carried out in the US .

I dare say the specs could be different but the Pfleuger Graphite reel was sold in the UK as the Graflite and you can likely pick up spares off UK eBay under that designation and even I have a few spools and an odd old one kicking around .

Pflueger Trion reels are current in the UK this year and I hope longer - great product and I can surely supply you with spools and reels until around November - I'll bet our prices will be higher and there's the extra freight though ! .
Trion rod - the US specs will virtually certainly be different , the US is a very different market than the UK and always will be - super product in the UK still current and selling pretty well - but probably of little use to you !

If I can help anybody find compatible spares I will ( goes with the territory ! )

Best wishes

Steve P

PS I may have a handle on the strange Dragonfly for you but really need a look see - will have been sold in the UK but maybe under a different badge engineered name !
