A well thought out combination of pouches and pockets, that is well constructed

I'd heard a rumour last year that Airflo had a very good range, with the Outlander series of equipment. It was when a friend said that I should have a look at Airflo's Vest & Back Pack, that I was pleasantly surprised.

This is a very well thought out piece of gear. With ample front pouches for easy storage and a back pack that can carry everything you'll need for your day's fishing. Including a rod holder. What else would you need.

The front of the Vest has no less than fourteen pouches and pockets, inside and out.

On the front are two moulded pouches containing fly stations in each, though these are not slotted foam. These are sealed with a double zip for easy opening in any direction. Above that is a single zipped fly box pouch that is large enough for most boxes (Dimensions are 8.5 X 5 X 2.5in) Directly above which is another slanted zip accessing another large front pocket. Pig tail retractors are fitted each side on the front for snips, forceps etc and behind these is another vertical zip leading into a large front pocket.

(The pic below shows the rod holder, slanted zip above and behind the forceps is the vertical pocket zip)

On the inner front are four more pockets two secured with zips and are full length and two velcro closed pockets for small sundries.

The vest zips up at the front and has a snap fastner should you wish to leave the vest unzipped.

Side adjusters allow simple tightning on the straps and buckles, plus there are two more small pockets situated here, which I use for tippet storage. (see pic below)

At the shoulder are two large "D" rings each side and the shoulder adjusters to lift the rig up. (see pic below)

The back has three zips. One for access to a small pouch. Another for the more than adequate Large pouch and the third zip for the expander, to enlarge the largest pouch. Quite remarkable really.

The back pad is reccessed for comfort (See pic)

There are three large "D" rings so you're not stuck for an anchor point for your net. (The pic below shows the "D" rings and three zips)

There are lots of tabs and tie downs for snips, zingers and the like plus straps for rod tubes and loops for more carriage than you can shake a stick at.

All the zips are finished with loops and toggles for cold weather use with gloves.

If you're in doubt about what sort of rig can give you the most storage space and be comfortable to wear, then take a look that the Airflo Vest & Back Pack. You won't be disappointed with it.

Very good Stuart, the pictures are great.

Im sure it will be part of your kit for a long time to come. I see a lot of anglers using these on the lake banks too..

Cheers, Kieron

Lots more wearing these now. A very comfortable fit that not only contours the body but you don't feel your wearing it.

Very cool. The fly stations in the front most pouches are very useful.

A plus point for me is the tippet storage pockets on the side of the vest. Elasticated tops to prevent loss yet clear enough to see what you have in there. Nice touch. (See pic below)

Good review Stuart thanks, I have hopefully ordered one via Garyj he has asked for another ten people to put their names up.
We just need another six.
Are the retractors on the vest facing upwards? I find that a bit strange, on all previous vests waistcoats etc of mine they hang downwards.
I had the LL Bean one which has been great, but a friend has begged me to sell it to him, hence the Airflo reolacement.
Steven.

Steven, the retractors do face up the way. Like yourself all my other waistcoats, they faced down. Strangely enough, it feels so much easier, havging then face upwards.
A great bit of kit.

I think the reasoning behind the retractors facing upwards is that once in use the cord on the retractor is not being stretch or pulled around the rim of the housing such as when facing down.

I've had a few break when facing down like this - has anyone else?

The cord can be easily retracted and keeps your tools in a handy position when needed.
