Default Rio Mainstream wf6f

Feedback for Rio Mainstream

I needed a wf6f line to replace my Rio Grand wf6f when using my Atomsix dan craft ft 9ft 6wt rod.

Bottom line is although the Grand worked really well on the rod it seemed a fragile line and only lasted 6 months (likely 40-50hrs of fishing) which was very poor in comparrison to my Barrio and snowbee lines.

The Ft likes a heavy line not quite a full weight over but .5 seemed to really work well and so the Rio Grand worked well.

Knowing I needed a new line I decided to try the Rio Mainstream at roughly £28 delivered it was a big saving over the Grand.

The line arrived it has no loops at either end like the Grand and other top spec lines from Rio, but I was not worried as I was using it as a nymphing/small lure line so I simply used some braided leader loops.

I hung the line over night to remove the bigger coils after storage and pulled tight to try to remove them as best as possible when respooling onto my reel. On the first outing the line loaded to rod well and casted great, the only downside was the memory in the line and the odd 1" here and there not floating like I wanted it to. Being a windy day I casted the line out and then put the entire line onto the water allowing the line to remove the coils. I then restreched the line by hand and cast it all out again.

It was much better now laying really straight but still the odd 1" was not high on the water. On returning home I dried/cleaned the line at then treated with snowbee line slick.

I used it again today and I have to say its now dead straight and sits high on the surface after treatment. Just a little time and Snowbee line slick had it bang on.

So to sum it up for £28 its a great buy and would recommend it, it performed like my Rio Grand but was likely £20 cheaper. It should work well for all fast actioned rods and cast great at all distances.

Thumbs up from me for the Rio Mainstream wf6f.

I find the snowbee xs line very light loading on any rod.

Surprised the Grand cracked so quickly. I find Rio lines very durable.

Think SA lines are hard to beat for longevity. My sink tip is about 7 years old and still going strong.

My grand died very quickly maybe it was faulty. The mainstream actually lies straighter than my grand did as well. i reckon my wf5 barrio mallard's do 600-650 hours of fishing before I change them. My snowbee is still going strong but I might try a mainstream in wf5 format as I rate the 6wt line.

I know a lot of people say the rio's don't lie straight but the mainstream has surprised me.

I would send the Rio Grand back. That sounds like a defective line, unless your casting is really ****.

Could be the casting . Grand went in the bin when the Mainstream worked out. Never had a line last for so few hours, could have been a duffer.
