Default Carp in Surrey

I really wanted to get some carp on the fly this year and as the summer comes to an end I finally cracked it.

Not too far from Dorking is Dean farm, a collection of several lakes, one of which is suitable for fly fishing.

I turned up last Monday around midday not expecting much but it quickly became apparent, after throwing in a few mixers, they were going to be quite happy to take them.

I ended up with 11 carp, 4 of which were over 10lb......

The largest at 12lb

It was as good a days fishing that I've had in a while, apart from the usual way carp take biscuits off the surface, I also had some really savage takes and it was all I could do sometimes to start playing the fish before it had already taken all the loose line on the floor and then some. First time I've seen the backing on that reel since I put it on!

If you haven't tried it you really should....
