HI Tony,
Yes... definately worth a cast or two I've used them for years with great success..Best times I found was early morning or late evening into dusk..but they'll catch throughout the day too particulary as you suggest across/through the weedy areas.
The secret with the mouse is to work the fly/lure ..make it look realistic..'swim' it across the surface so that it's movements are erratic.
The 'Mouse' has two inbuilt actions that are designed to...
Firstly-throw a lively wake behind itself on the retrieve ..
Secondly-create a bubble trail..
Natural deer hair ie:brown for average weather conditions/light
black for dull overcast days..[presents a more distinct silhouette as
seen from below]

Where you will find a couple of my articles explaining all !

Please don't hesitate to ask if you have any questions..

Kindest Regards
John

A wee trick ... fish a mouse on a sink tip or slow sink line ..On the retrieve the dry fly/lure will be pulled just under the surface..
Then bob back up to the surface..Pull under, bob back up ...
Can be deadly on days when thing's are a little quiet..

Kindest Regards
JOHN

Why stop with pike? I just gutted a grown on Rainbow from my club reservoir with a large black rodent in it's gut. Size seemed bigger than mouse and tail shorter, possibly a water Vole? My wife wanted it out of the house before she'd agree to stop screaming so no photographs I'm afraid.

cheers for the all the advice people

One last qusetion will these mouse patterns be mainly successful when the water tempearatures are still a little higher i.e best used before the first real frost of the winter kicks in or can they be used all year?

Bet that was a shock to see a mouse in a rainbows belly makes you wonder dont it ?

Offshore i keep meaning to try for chubb will add a mouse to my chubb box now if i ever get out there after them.

Cheers
Tony
