Default bullhead

Bullhead...on a fly. Has anyone on here ever caught a bullhead accidentally whilst flyfishing? I intend to target the species this weekend, using small nymphs fished close to the bottom and worked around largish stones, logs etc. Has anybody had any experiences at all of this species on the fly? I succeeded in gudgeon and minnow so far.

Aren't Bullheads nocturnal generally ? Or is that stone loaches.
Good luck never the less.

Might be worth checking with the EA before targeting them.

I have fished a Very small Stream on and off for 25 years that runs a few hundred yards from the end of my garden. Now I know Bullhead are in the stream as ive seen them when looking for Insects under pebbles. Over all these years I have caught small Trout and Minnows (and quite a few trees) but I have never even seen a Bullhead look at a Fly never mind catch one.
If it is legal and you pull it off Its Legend status me thinks

As kids when damming off streams, we used to "catch" loads below our dams -they are pretty easy prey when have have no water to swim in !

If I recall correctly one made a mockery of the then record we even weighed it on mum's kitchen scales and called the record fish number - bit of a let down to find out it was closed season....

I've had a few on maggot feeder on the Ribble, though I agree it's straight to Hall of Fame status to catch one by design on the fly.

Was called back by E.A regarding bullheads. As far as they know not protected. But check local fishery byelaws/rules. If you wish to know the name of the fisheries chap I spoke to. Please feel free to pm and I shall give you contact details.
