Talking Madness ? -Tench on fly !!!

Hi Guys

Given ive achieved my personal challenge to catch Roach on the fly

I feel a new challenge coming on ................ all those days in the sun stalking Roach must have cooked my brain because ive decided Tench on the fly will be my next quest

I have no elusions as to how hard this ones going to be And dont reckon i will achieve it any time soon !

I will be fishing "blind" unlike my Roach fishing were i was sight casting.

Flys ?

Gold head blood worm ?

App's blood worm ?

Buzzers ?

Yellow nymphs ?

Any and all suggestions most welcome

Are you sure you want to go down that road, it's a frustrating activity..

I dont think you will need to fish blind if you choose your venue carefully. I use to stalk a lot of tench from gravel pits on free lined baits and can not see why fly fishing should be impossible, have no illusions it will be extremely hard though.

As for flies you could possibly go fown the bread fly route?

I reckon some sort of jelly worm concoction might work. The tench in my part of the world turn somersaults for little red worms. At the other end of the spectrum I fished a match a few years ago now that was won with a catch of tench taken on artificial hemp. I couldn't buy a bite despite there being obvious tench bubbles in and around my swim. If the carp lads have been pre-baiting with hemp it may be a way to go................I don't envy you the frustration, but I admire the guts to have a bash............good luck and let us know how you get on.......................birdsnest

John Goddard did an article on this very thing in FFand FT some time ago.
Flies as you suggest and perhaps a bread flake pattern?
Pretty much think you might have had it this year, might be better to wait to next summer????

Good luck anyway.
What about speaking to Ronnie at Magiscroft, full of carp, ide and the usual coarse fish. Might be a good place to try picking up a few different species.

I mostly fish for tench with artificials now, although hair rigged fake maggots aren't exactly fly fishing

I think that if you can put a nymph or bloodworm imitation on top of bubbling fish you should have a good chance.

I'm probably setting myself up to be burnt at the heritic stake here.
But I'll share my secret weapons with you Englander.

Tin hat on ready.

Secret weapons are a Weed Rake!!!!!!!. Tin of hemp, flys are a split shot painted black pinched on the hook with a tuft of calf hair/White marabou in the groove. Most important weapon is a very early start.Rake/prebait as it's just about to get light,Wait for bubbles sling in fly.

There now I've come out I'm a dirty "Crossover Fisherman".

Not everyones cup of tea,no doubt. I await the hate mail.:joking
