Wink Minnow record ?

Hi Guys

Finished tubing today when i spotted loads of minnows in the shallows, by luck i had my Roach fly box in my bag full of size 16,18,20 etc

Little dubbed white gold head worked a treat ! Real porkers these minnows caught three lost one

Out of interest what the UK record ? Reckon this water could hold it

The British record minnow is a hefty 13.5 drams, so you're going to need an accurate pair of scales!

What a porker, I think we tend to forget just how pretty these mini species are.May sound daft but that's a nice fish.

Nice fish !! How come you lost one ?? Did it smash you like ???

When I was a lad I used to catch them on my local stream on just bare hooks in gold and red

They make a fantastic live bait for Perch .

When the minnows fat like that they are in breeding condition,
they seemed to disappear for a while ,but are back in thousands again now,
,A mate fished a coarse match sunday ,and they were weighing in minnows out of Derwent because the fishing was so bad

That is a big minnow, must be good conditions for them. I enjoy catching minnows, they can be great fun when nothing else is doing.

I've had a lot of minnows on fly when fishing the river, I usually know about it when they come whizzing past my ear on the back cast lol.

I've caught one of at least 4" from the Monnow, I was fishing for livebait at the time and this one was actually too big. I also caught a gudgeon of about 8" that must have gone close to the record.

It normally took me longer to catch a minnow than a trout, chub or perch with it. The other fish we often caught on a live minnow on the Wye or Monnow were flounders.

I had been spared to see another spring, and I thank God for it.”

I'm glad it's not just me - I thought I had a subtle bite the other weekend so my instinct was to strike. The next thing I knew, a minnow came arcing through the air and landed on the bank behind me I felt very guilty but I put it straight back and it swam off.
