Default First proper Pike outing!

I was off for holidays so I got up early this morning and try for the Pike at a local lough. It was a lovely morning but the weather turned for the worse as I was leaving. I caught 5 nice Pike on a 2/0 Bush Pig. Most of them were very small and the biggest was around 4lbs.

Casting was awkward (a mill end 7wt on an 8wt rod!) and I developed a nice blister on my forefinger. I definitely need to get an 8wt floater suited for big flies.

Anyway, here's the fly.

100% crocodile.

The lough I fished is a bit low at the moment, exposing all the great underwater features. Definitely a Pike hot-spot!

Nice fish. I'd change that snap link though. The one you have (I speak from expirence) will open out when you hit your first decent fish.

Try this link for info on PFFing www.pffa.co.uk

Good work mate,

I have yet to catch a pike after a few outings on my local lake. Did you use a fast retrieve?

Some nice pictures also with good colours. I dont think you took them pics with your mobile phone right?

Thanks for the advice. I plan on using a solid metal trace with a spiral lock when I get the wire sorted.

I used a varied retrieve fished at all depths. I think the most important part was fishing the fly close to structure, whether it's a weed bed or a sunken tree.

The camera I used was a Nikon D40. Cheap at around £250 or less and quite good. I'm still only learning the basics with it though.

Chris, thanks for the flies.

Regards,
Brennan

Well done Brennan, looked like you had a great day.
