Hey BlueOne,

Nice shots of those "hucho snacks"!

Do they take a dry or nymphs?

Cheers

Hi Steve,

They can be taken on nymphs, which is a normal method. In one old edition of slovene fishing magazine i have found an article, that they can be taken on a dryfly, but i haven`t been able to do so yet. They do take flies of the surface now and then but so far i have not been able to develop a reliable method for geting them regulary in such manner. Speaking of hucho, one of them had a "souvenier" which just might originated from Mr.Hucho.

Not necessary madjoni, that is some 40cm+ nose carp, such fish could be attacked by a hucho of 80cm or even less. Here is one famous picture take by late Miran Svetina, published in his book Sladkovodno ribištvo na Slovenskem. You can see a small hucho feeding with a rather big fish. the specie of the fish is not given, but judging by the tail, body shape, scales etc. is a small nose carp.

I can also give you detailes about that hucho, it was kept in captivity on Faculty for biology, University of Ljubljana, so the picture was taken in aquarium.

Yes, nose carp fry is the first food of hucho fry, that is the link between the two.

Regarding nose carps on dryfly. I got lucky today and came across a few that were picking flies. Got two, had plenty of missed takes. Timing must be just right with such mouth.
