Cheers mate, at the time I thought rudd but it has a touch of roachyness about it. It came and snaffeled up my fly, my intended fish was a golden orfe of about 4 pound. Escapee i guess.
iPhone pic doesn't do it justice at all. Must start carrying a proper camera.

Cracking fish. Looks like a roach to me (red eye, silver scales, orange-y red fins).

Rudd or Roach it's a belting fish.

The mouth (and body colour in the second photo) is more like a rudd but of course it could be hybrid. Either way it is, as others have said, a cracking fish.

Cracking fish that!!!

My money is on a rudd or a hybrid, the first photo makes it look as if the mouth is upturned which i was always told was the easiest way to separate a roach from a rudd, does look very roachy though.

Cheers for the interest guys. This was the object of my desire,my intended quarry.Really rubbish picture I know.No sense of scale and what not.I shall try for Orfellia as I've now named her another day.If you look closely you can see Robert the Rudd roach behind her.

I'm surprised a heron hasn't had that! But if its as big as you say then maybe it would be a bit big.

I've got 4 golden orfe in my pond along with my koi carp. Their rate of growth has been unbelievable. I bought them at about 4 inches about 5 years ago and now they're all about 2 1/2 pounds. I'd like to get rid of them to be honest, as i'd rather the pond was just koi. Obviously i'm not going to chuck them in to the wild though.

Would anyone in hertfordshire like 4 x 2.5lb golden orfe? You can have them for free!

Nice fish. I'd bet my money on it being a Roach.
