Thumbs up River Roach

I don't often go to the river but when I do it is pot luck if you get Trout , Perch or a Roach .
The Roach are an "invasive species" but I don't mind catching them . I think the river roach ( all river fish infact ) have something about them that their still water cousins don't ???

Went to the river for an hour yesterday but was hardly any water in it !!

I did manage to winkle out one trout ( got away before I got a pic ) and this Roach that looks like it is fresh out of the mold , I think it is beautiful and enjoy catching and looking at them as much as I do trout

Well done Danny that is a perfect roach, and not a bad size too! Not sure but it looks like you caught it on a pheasant tail nymph, roach love those and hares ears as well.
Fly fishing for them works really well when there is not much depth of water, in some cases it can be better than bait if they are high in the water.
Once again well done!

Yes was caught on a claret PTN with a copper wire rib . Have used Hares Ears but they don't catch anywhere near as many fish as the PTN
I find the takes from the Roach are lightening fast !!

Was back at the river yesterday . First fish was a Trout followed by some Roach ( 9 I think )

Not as big as the one above but it was good fun trying to hook these wickedly fast fish !! When I had caught 2 I kept saying to myself " Just one more then I will leave " This went on for fish after fish

A couple of examples ......

Well done Dan!
Roach are a gorgeous looking fish and are one of my all time favourite species.

On the other hand, I feel their looks can be enhanced by adding a couple of shiny size 4 Kamasan trebles, and wraping the whole thing up in a mottled green package about 4ft long

Only joking Dan, well done
