I have indeed although I find the constricted section of tights makes for an "easier to negotiate" wing post for the hackle than plain booby foam allowing a greater degree of stretch when tying the hackle in. BTW, plain old boobies catch carp on the surface just as well in a lot of cases!!

Tony3789, I totally understand your misgivings about the bloodworm approach but it does work, even in coloured water, just give them an occasional twitch now and again. I've watched Skateboard Dave (who occasionally posts on this forum) do it quite successfully and as a result have caught this way myself although I don't find it as satisfying as catching them off the top.

whistlekiller with the bloodworm do you let it sit on the bottom for a few seconds twitch then leave it again and repete till the end off the retrive?

Or do you figure of eight it back with the occasional twitch?

When I've used the bloodworm method (following Dee's advice) which I only really do when they aren't topping, I put a gold head version on the point and either one or two un-weighted ones on very short droppers close together, maybe only a foot apart. I usually fish them in the margins with just enough fly-line out to act as a sort of quiver tip. All I do then is just occasionally twitch or lift them and let them settle again. A figure-of-eight may work but I've never tried it. I've also used a duo method with a dry fly as a sight indicator, that should get everyone upset.............carp on the bung!

Most carp pools in my experience are muddy brown in colour so I think the bloodworm method works better in the shallow margins as light can penetrate better and the fish are better able to spot them.
