I tried it yesterday and caught a dozen roach and rudd on a dry. It gave me more pleasure than catching 100 on coarse tactics.
Another guy came down to fish our trout lake and ended up joining me.

Well done Highbank glad you gave it a go sounds like it was a good day!
I fished the same pond a week earlier using light float fishing gear and tiny peices of punched bread. Yes I caught more fish but the bites were very shy even though I dotted the float right down and used tiny hooks and light lines. Yet when I fished the fly the bites were very positive a lot more confident than when I used bait, why I dont know!
I also enjoyed catching them more on the fly rod than the waggler even though I caught less fish!

Only just come accross this Paul, what a cracking write up.
Lovely pics as well. As someone else pointed out, the photo of the bike with the rod strapped on took me back 50 years, but we didn't have tubes then.
Thanks for showing us, and well done.

Cracker Bruce, had me laughing. How flaming old do you think I am, I don't get my bus pass till December the 9th this year.
And we don't have any flaming buses here either.

Ide are from the Carp family as I understand. I fish for them here in Holland during the Summer using light tackle. They usually swim around in Juvenille schools (30- 40 cm) while the adult fish (50 + cm) usually swim solo. The way I fish for them is using nymphs but stripped back fast to imitate fry.
