Default Top water pike ?

Hello everyone,

This past year I moved back to Europe after 13 years and was wondering if anyone uses top water pike flies here (I assume European pike couldn't be that much different from a US pike LOL). I just don't see people here using top water pike flies. Could be a local (Czech Republic) "thing", who knows.
There seem to be more people here using all other but top water methods here when fly fishing for pike.

Any opinions?

Thanks for your replies

PC,

They will take top water lures no problem. Just fish them like you did at home.

I use two top water flies... one actually works just inder the surface... Umpqua pike fly - spun deer hair head with outward facing grizzle hackles and icelandic sheep tail with flash... the other is true top water... oversize Gartside Gurgler tied on a 3/0 Sakuma Manta... yellow foam wth red magnum rabbit belly and grizzle hackle and flash tail...

Both are well documented catchers from April to September last year... see my blog for details and patterns... the Umpgua was my favourite go to pike fly last year...

Have fun!!

Throwing poppers for Pike is one of the best ways to approach them, especially very early mornings on a river in low summer level Oh and watch out for Perch too, 4/0 popper is no problem even for Perch under 2lbs, and they love em!
