all depend son the size of the waters you are fishing, i have a 9ft 10wieght for my pike fishing it also doubles for my salt water fly fishing ,i should think the 8/9 weight will be ample make sure you load it up with a 9 weight line and you will be fine

Default 7

i only use a 7 as only used on a small river its ideal but even if its a small pike i still get to play it but ive also had 20+ lb on it ,good sport i find if the rods to heavey you wont enjoy the small ones as much , enjoy whatever u choose but no matter how well you play them dont go below a 5/7 as the extra time it could take to tier a large pike could tire the fish to much for a full recovery

yes i agree with you if the rod is not powerfull enough it will take the fish far to long to recover i also have an eightweight for the pike on smaller waters

I'd choose the heavier one. The line size depends on the size of the fly. if you intend using big flies especially in windy conditions you will appreciate the powerful rod.

And when you've found out about the shortcomings of dolled up Chinese made converted 9 foot US Saltwater sticks labelled optimistically as Pike Rods.....

I do particularly good ones on Harrison Blanks 10 feet long and in 9#-11# , 11#-13# , 13#-15# - but as I don't work for a bowl o' rice a day they are treble the price - and last whole lots longer !

Buy British - Export Unemployment ! - Use Men's Rods !!

It depends on te size of the fly you shall be using. If you would like to throw some huge, wind resistant classic pike flies.....you need heavier line, so heavier rod.

fly-needed line to cast that fly-needed rod to cast both of them..........that`s how you should look at things.

Ps:

In my expirience it is far better to go for heavier line and relaxed casting as with lighter line and fast line speed, the last wears you out.

Well said that man. I try to buy British whenever possible. I'll vote for you Steve at The Election.

I am currently using a Diawa Wilderness 9.5ft 8/9# as my single handed salmon fly rod it will take leaders over 20lb and put out a good size dropper and a lump of a fly on the point, I like this rod as it has lined rings on the butt and all the middle section this rod will handle a good fish, I think it would be a good choice for middle sized pike with a medium sized pike fly...as this rod was indended for.
Cheers Glyn
