Red tags, gold head nyphs, pin fry patterns, small lures, always found locaton more the key to perch they can be greedy beggars if you get onto them!

If you use fry patterns i would think about incorporating a trace aswell as you may hook into a pike ..............................

There in lies a conumdrum ! To trace or not to trace !! Whilst ive caught perch while fishing (spinning) for pike from what ive heard/read the guys who "target" perch on the fly seem to say they dont like trace !! Unlike pike who dont give a monkeys ..................?

I my local canal ive found perch on the fly quite a hit or miss affair but they have taken damsel lure, white humungus, goldhead viva nymph all without trace .........i think theres alot of truth in what our friend said "location, location, location

Ive never caught a perch whilst fly fishing (trace) for pike in the canal !

I love stick float fishing for perch after fly fishing its my favorite pastime, but id really like to increase my "consistancy" in my perch fly fishing i.e set up / leader leangth/material, line floater? /sink? and then theres fly patterns ? so far ive not found a "constant" pattern

There is a lot of truth in what Codenamemilo says "they can be greedy beggars if you get onto them!"

Last year, whilst trying out a rod on the canal, ( I had no intention of actually "fishing" ) but just happened to have a 3" long white humungus on the end of my tippet - a 4 1/2" perch took the lot during my retrieve and even though I was using a barbless hook, I had a heck of a job trying to get the hook out it was so far down his throat !

Depending on the size of the Perch you are targetting will help you decide on fly size, and if they are around 2lb and bigger they really wont mind the wire trace. Here's a few, the last being my PB at 3lb 8oz(crummy pic due to the shaking)

12's Damsel...

12's Beadhead nymph with a pink tag...

3/0 Zonker/synth creation+ wire trace...

4/0 Popper+wire trace...

I actually fancy trying for some of the big stripers which live in Grafham. I'm thinking lure and deep, any suggestions?
