max come and have a bash with me one day and ill show you set ups etc, rook or dougie on forum will advise you. Its all quite simple so dont listen to anyone tellin you porkies. For the size of fish i target i use 30Ib wire and 44Ib seaguar fluorocarbon. never been broken . 9ft 10# rod

for small pike a short 8 or 9# is enough to bully them in quickly. If your stuck let me know.

i currently have a sage z-axis #7 for trout but have had a 7lb pike off the lake on it which was fun and games lol. What sort of Trout flies do you suggest for pike?

Big ones
Have a look at the fulling mill flies. Most tackle shops have them.
7wt mmmmm wait till you hit something bigger, not so much fun then also you might struggle to cast these big flies, give me a pm and I will send you some.

hi max please dont use a 7wt will take to long to land pike, you will land them eventually but will not go back well, also you will struggle casting 6inch pike bunnies on that. Go for a 9wt.

John.

Hi Max

I've found that just about any thing in yellow or orange and chartruese seems work well in the Forth & Clyde, be it bunny bugs, huge hunks of marabou or big chucks of buck tail.

To be honest i mostly use 1/0's on the F & C as theres "SO" many tiny jacks.

Sadly it seems custom locally if a lad catches a monster to bash its head in and drag it about to show your pal's, hence the over population of wee jacks

However i bump into more and more guys up there now will more enlightened views

Max, a 7# wont look at big flies, itll just fold. contact dougie or Alex wilkie (rook) who tie some awesome flies. they will keep you right. its infectious trust me.

wait till you get a kipper pike were made for fly fishing...

Thumbs up

Max,

I'll meet you down at Millhall if you like, show you the tackle/flies/leaders etc. I'm sure Andy will let you have a practice on there (casting) before the opening day for trout.......as long as it's a Pike fly you have on!

Dougie
