Having trashed several lesser alternatives along the way, the giant (33") macleans gye weigh net. Not cheap but you don't get what you don't pay for in the bombproof department

Hi Hibbs

Got to agree with Taniwha about the McLeans Weigh net.
Having gone through a number of nets to find one suitable for carrying and sturdiness, the McLeans is excellent.
Has a good mesh and is light and easy to use.

I also tried the Sharpes Gye net and didn't like the plastic sliding block.
Also found the leather strap uncomfortable at least until it softened up.

So the McLeans for me.

i use one of these http://www.redportnet.co.uk/view.aspx?id=6 in the 42" size and find it ideal, big enough for any pike, light and easy to carry, although no strap is fitted, it would be easy to make one to fit, or i have put one of the landing net magnets on the end of mine and have it hanging from the top of my waistpack, although i did have to take a few inches off the end of th handle

You can pick up a stap for about £8.00.

Have a look at the Spro hookproof ones at harrissportsmail. I have one of the folding triangular ones whilst friends have the fixed frame one for lure fishing and they are great for the £. All under £30 I think.

Presumably nets are for landing fish from the bank judgung from the replies. From a boat I use a 32" net if I want a quick photo or a Boga grip just to hold the fish in the water when unhooking.
Just a Boga grip when float tubing.

I've looked at those things but am a little unsure as to whether they're OK for the fish. I think I'd need to see them in operation to set my mind at rest. When you use the grips, do you remove the pike entirely from the water or just use them to control it at the side of the tube while you disgorge?
