Default when to fly fish for mackerl

i live on the south east of england and was wondering when is the best time time to fly fish for mackerl?

I dont own a boat so it would have to be from the shore is this possible?

Also you hear of people catching five or six on a single cast when and how do you locate the mackerl to enjoy this type of sport however i will only have one fly on my line.

Think this would be a good days fishing and something a bit different when the weather gets a bit better.

Any help on this matter would be very much appriciated

Best time of the year is from june to october (At least off the coast of Ireland it is...) Although last year they seemed to be a little earlier than normal. I think i was catching them in may.

Mackerel travel in shoals, so if they are in your area then you will do well.. Usually with mackerel you will either catch a bunch of them or none at all... Fly fishing for them can be good craic.. 2 flies is probably enough though...

The best way to find out if the mackerel are about is word of mouth. Just ask in the local tackle shop and they will let you know if the mackerel have been about. Its great fun with a light rod. They put up a great flght for their size..

Cheers
JJ
