Default Mini species

just wondered if anyone has actively targeted our mini specimens like gdugeon, bullhead, minnows, stone loach and the likes?

i know theres no sport to catching such small species but its just a change from the norm and i like to be a bit different, i intend doing a fair bit of fly fishing for course fish this year and i'm sure the above species would take tiny nymphs?

Martin

Not managed a bullhead or stone loach yet, but gudgeon and minnows yeah. Bleak will throw themselves at pretty much anything but try catching a minnow off the top, that's some frustrating sport for ya

Fishing the duo method of a small nymph under a dry is a good start, though you'll need something small and heavy to get down to those gudgeon if they're in some flow(as usual). Flies need not be fancy just small, try beadhead PTN's or GRHE's and go from there.....

This monster took a 18's Tungy PTN...

Little fish can be very greedy!

When we were kids, I copied the idea of a dog nobbler to catch sticklebacks by jigging it up and down on a handline - that was a #22 with a shot pinched on behind the eye and a few strands of red cotton whipped onto the hook. Not really fly fishing, but it worked!
