Default Pike Fly line reviews

I am thinking of getting a floating Pike line to add to my armoury, i own and use a sink tip at the moment.

Having trawled the forums and websites there doesn't seem to be that much info about. The cortland 333 Pro Pike comes rated quite highly, and at a reasonable price, but doesn't seem to available anywhere.

The 444 SL Pike is the most readily available but the big boys seem to use either the rio pike or Teeny pro. Though these are all specialist lines and come at a price.

So just wondered if you guys could help with your honest reviews of what you are using and how you find it.

Rio outbound shorts for me, perfect for the places i fish, most dont have much back cast room and the shorter head aids the 1x false cast + shoot.

The new coating and thicker running line makes it a winner!

Cheers

I have the Cortland 333 Pro Pike and it is a great line... I also bought a spare from the States on ebay for £16 (I'll get another year out of the existing one!). I also have a Scientific Anglers Mastery Pike that will be loaded onto a reel in the next day or so... will let you know what that's like...

The Guideline series of Pike lines are great. Look them up at GAC. Mastery is a superb line too, both are expensive but are real quality.

I contacted Pitsford Pirate but he was unable to supply a pike line in 9# as I would have gone to him first.
I went for a cortland 444SL Pike line and love it

I use either a RIO-Pike or self made SH's randomly switching between the two purely for a change.

I have used the RIO-OB short in the tropics for chucking big SW flies, as already mentioned above I reckon they would do for Pike as well.

If you don't want to spend too much cash on a new line I personally would suggest that you make up SH.

Further to continued enquiries, UK Predator lines will be available in the Spring.

I am looking to introduce a sub £20.00 line that will more than compete with those at normally double the price.

I am still having a play around with tapers and any pointers/input/advice gratefully received.

Tightlines!

The Pirate.
