Red face Fly fishing for Bass in Ireland

Hello Ladies and Gents

Just a quick one really, I want to get some gen on how to go about flyfishing for bass off the coast. I have a fairly heavy 8wt rod and lines but the flies and leaders I just don't know where to start.

Any ideas????

Many Thanks

Steve

have tried a couple of times off the coast of islay, never had any luck but the locals use a floating line and small fry type patterns fished in amounst the seaweed and rocky areas along the coast.

I will tie up some clousers and the like. I am going to give it a go as long as the wind doesn't murder it!

many Thanks once again

Any Bassy looking spot along the coastlines of Wexford, Waterford, Cork and Kerry will have Bass at some stage of the tide. You are just going to have to put the hours in to figure out what marks fish best and when. You should have a look at Jim Hendricks website, he is a Bass guide on the east coast...and he posts here so well worth a search

The lakes and rivers of South West Kerry are world famous for their fishing, and justly so. Lough Currane is the jewel in the crown and is undoubtedly the best sea trout lake in western Europe. Many of the rivers still have good runs of salmon and, if the drift nets leave us, they may soon be as good as they were 50 years ago.South West Kerry has arguably the best bass fishing in Europe. Thanks to the Irish conservation laws the bass is protected. Even the rod and line angler cannot sell his catch, and many anglers release almost all of these special fish that they catch. Because these and other fish are plentiful the fly rod does have its place in saltwater angling.
