Glen to help we need to know where you are fishing and what method and tackle, you are using!
Only guessing with fish following and not taking is to big a fly!

Glen

Just searched your other posts... so guess you were after pike or perch... just so that you don't feel too bad I had a go on Friday PM - not much doing at all. Don't get disheartened and size isn't everything in flies sometimes big flies are the name of the game and on others it is a small fly. Colour and presentation are everything. With pike a fly on the pause will be the trigger just as it sits there like a baitfish that now thinks its out of danger.

Any specifics about where you are fishing as I'm in the North West give me a quick Pm.

David

Thx for the reply.

I'am fishing a little lake called Waterdale behind prestwich hospital. It as a nice weed/lilly patch in the middle ,around 5ft deep and shallow at 1 end.

I using a floating line and Daiwa pike flys(and 1 i tryed making meself out of old xmas stuff).Around a 10" wire trace and 3-4ft 15lb clear mono as a ledger.

Have been casting in waiting for around 5-10 secs then slowly pulling line or pulling fast !!

hope this helps.

What's the clarity of the water like? My fave fly is a bucktail deceiver of maybe 4 inches long... three colours to work with white (with and without a red head), black and orange.

That fly in each colourway should sort you out... next is your leader - beef that up to 25lb Seaguar fluorocarbon... and then albright that to 20lb knotable wire - like American Fishing Wire... you can use Fastachs on the end of the wire... used one last Friday (available from Dave Lumb's website) must say am impressed with the Fastach!

Remember to pause at the end of the retrieve as most strikes happen there...

Tight lines.

There are few if any websites that sell any good pike flies I hapened to buy a set of flies from Dougie who was raising some cash and then I lost a couple and that's when I started tying my own... Stapely water gardens shouldn't be too far from you... or Meadow Fishery at Chester is another one ... great stock of kit there and a Regent vice will only cost you £15 to £20... I suppose if you haven't got a car you'd be beggared but those are the ones I know... Meadow is better for variety.

Long cock hackles in orange, black and white, same colours in bucktail, gold and silver flash and or crystal flash. GOOD flytying scissors a bobbin holder, super glue, and some clear nail varnish... 3/0 Sakuma manta hooks and you are away.

PM me where you are and I'll try and point you in the right direction for waters or where to find... I have assumed above that you are a driver and I your own wheels...

Glenahen,

I've got a few flies coming up for sale again soon as I'm about to start some more tying so will need to make room - they ain't cheap but are well proven patterns

David - Glad you liked the leader with the fastach, I'm sure Dave would like to hear your feedback?

Cheers,

Dougie

Offshore them places you listed have pike ? I'am i a big pike fisher , been spinning for them for years. Not really into live/dead baiting.

Great Dougie and how much is not cheap ? lol

Anyway i've always kinda liked to try fly fishing and when i got yet another pike fishing book their was abit on fly fishing for pike.So i thought i'd give it a try.Only been out with fly rod a few times and i'am kinda hooked. Not just the fishing part the whole side of fly making too.(got some cheap bits from tackle shop that have been their for years lol)

Just dieing to hook a pike up now on me fly rod , even a perch will do hehe

You guys no any sites that have info on piking with a fly rod or forums ? google only finds this forum.thx
